The Community Opportunity Readiness Program (CORP) is a key economic development initiative administered by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC). It provides financial support to First Nations and Inuit communities and their representative organisations to advance a wide range of community-led economic development activities. CORP funding is intended to enhance the readiness of Indigenous communities to pursue viable business opportunities and realise economic benefits from development. The program supports both the development phase (such as feasibility studies and planning) and the implementation phase (such as infrastructure upgrades or business expansion). Eligible activities include, but are not limited to: business site preparation, acquiring equipment, capacity building, environmental assessments, renovation of commercial or industrial buildings, and business plan development. CORP is flexible in that it can co-fund projects with other federal or provincial programs, Indigenous financial institutions, or private sector partners. It is designed to respond to the economic priorities identified by communities, and is aligned with ISC’s broader objective of supporting sustainable, self-determined Indigenous economic growth. The program is proposal-based, and each submission must clearly define expected economic outcomes, such as job creation, business revenue, or training opportunities. Projects that demonstrate long-term benefits and a strong potential for economic sustainability are prioritised for funding.
