Adjusting after job loss

To help workers, organizations, communities, and sectors who are affected by workplace closure, downsizing or the threat of job losses by allowing them to manage and anticipate changes in the labour market.

Overview of the Adjusting after job loss program:

Ontario's workforce is our most valuable asset. As new technologies, globalization and shifting demographics rapidly change Ontario's economy, they alter the mix of available jobs and the skills people need to succeed in them. By building up education and training, we can maintain Ontario's competitive advantage, helping businesses and workers adapt to change and achieve their goals.

Benefits of the Adjusting after job loss program:
  • Meet with an advisor who will help you figure out how you can get back to work following a company layoff or plant closure. This can include things like:
  • Job-searching
  • Career, financial and personal counseling
  • Training
  • Registering for other services
  • Getting information about starting your own business
Eligibility criteria of the Adjusting after job loss program:
  • To take part in the Adjustment Advisory Program, you must:
  • Be an Ontario resident
  • Have lost your job due to layoffs or closures from an employer with 50 or more employees
  • Employers with 50 or more employees, must have filed a Notice of Termination (i.e. Form 1 Summary) with the Ministry of Labor
  • If you represent an organization
  • If you represent an employer, union, industry association, or community, you can also take part in the Adjustment Advisory Program.
  • An advisor will help you find and join a committee with other representatives from similar organizations. Together youll identify needs, goals, resources, and a strategy for your sector or community to adjust following a layoff or closure.
