Overview of the Business Incubation & Commercialization Grant tbr program:

This program is designed to support not-for-profit entrepreneurship, incubation, and accelerator activities whose primary goals are to create businesses and jobs, encourage the development of new ideas, and work towards organizational efficiency and sustainability while utilizing industry best practices. It does not provide grants to individual for-profit businesses but is aimed at not-for-profit organizations that offer entrepreneurship and incubation or acceleration programming to entrepreneurs.

  • Participants receive financial support to enhance their programming aimed at fostering entrepreneurship, business formation, innovation, and job creation within Toronto. The program aligns with the City of Torontos goals of access, equity, and inclusion.
Eligibility criteria of the Business Incubation & Commercialization Grant tbr program:
  • Eligible applicants are not-for-profit organizations that provide incubation-type programming to entrepreneurs, including:
  • Pre-Incubators: Offer services like business advisory support, mentoring, networking, and market research.
  • Incubators: Provide support for implementing business ideas into actual operations, including office or studio space, shared equipment, product development, mentoring, networking, and market research.
  • Accelerators: Focus on rapid growth through strategic financing and market readiness strategies, offering services like financing or investment, business advisory support, mentoring, and office or studio space.
  • Post-Secondary Education Institutions: Academic institutions that include entrepreneurship and business support as part of their curriculum and programming, including campus-led incubators and accelerators. (Eligible only for the Programs and Events Stream, with a cap of four grants per institution.)
  • Industry Associations: Organizations representing specific business sectors with a focus on entrepreneurship and sector development.
  • Additional requirements include:
  • Programming that is Toronto-centric and supports Toronto-based entrepreneurs and startups.
  • Robust business incubation, acceleration, and entrepreneurship programming.
  • Detailed and comprehensive application and supporting documents.
  • Proof of not-for-profit status, such as articles of incorporation, certificates of incorporation, or letters patent.
