Overview of the HATCH Venture Builder program:

The HATCH Venture Builder is designed to help UBC-affiliated startups transition from concept to scalable business. The program provides participants with resources including office space, access to the HATCH Makerspace and wet lab facilities, mentorship from experienced Entrepreneurs in Residence (EiRs) and Executives in Residence (XiRs), and connections to investor networks. Ventures accepted into HATCH have opportunities for in-depth training in areas such as revenue modeling, corporate strategy, product development, and team management. Over a 12- to 18-month period, HATCH ventures focus on achieving major milestones such as raising seed capital, securing commercial partnerships, or reaching product-market fit.

  • Connections to investor networks and showcase opportunities in UBCs Fall and Spring Venture Showcases.
  • Workshops on corporate development, product management, leadership, and investor relations.
  • Internship opportunities through partnerships with UBCs Sauder School of Business and Applied Science.
Eligibility criteria of the HATCH Venture Builder program:
  • Eligible applicants must:
  • Have at least two committed team members, one of whom must be full-time.
  • Be incorporated and maintain proper legal and advisory structures.
  • Have a well-developed product concept, ideally at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 or above, with a prototype or proof of concept.
  • Demonstrate traction, such as product-market fit, defined business models, and validated customer needs.
