The Commercial Fishing Loans Program, administered by the Communities Economic Development Fund (CEDF), is designed to provide financial support to fishers operating in Manitoba’s commercial inland fisheries. This program supports the sustainability and modernization of the province’s fishing industry, particularly in northern and remote communities where commercial fishing remains a vital economic activity. CEDF offers affordable, fixed-rate loans to individual fishers, fishing cooperatives, and family-run fishing operations to finance essential equipment and capital improvements. The loans can be used for purchasing new or used boats, snowmobiles, outboard motors, fishing gear, fish sheds, and ice-making equipment, as well as for making repairs or upgrades. One of the unique features of the program is its alignment with the seasonal income patterns of fishers. Repayment schedules are flexible and typically match commercial fishing seasons, helping reduce financial strain during off-seasons. Eligibility criteria of the CEDF Fisheries Loan Program program:

• Eligible applicants must:
• Be engaged in commercial inland fishing in Manitoba
• Be a resident of Manitoba
• Operate as individual fishers, cooperatives, or family fishing businesses
• Have a viable business case for purchasing or repairing fishing assets
• Be in good standing with existing loans (if applicable)
• Demonstrate capacity to repay the loan based on seasonal income
• Ineligible:
• Applicants not engaged in commercial fishing
• Applicants residing outside Manitoba
• Non-fishing-related purchases or expenses
