With a financial grant up to $500,000.00, community-based associations or business can be provided with resources to establish projects with sustainable benefits.

Overview of the Innovative Renewable Energy Initiative program:

The Innovative Renewable Energy Initiative is a program by the Government of Yukon under the Yukon Development Corporation which provides up to $500,000.00 of funding to community-based associations or businesses in Yukon. The funding aims to increase the supply of renewable energy and reduce diesel consumption in Yukon by helping entrepreneurs create sustainable projects such as the establishment of photovoltaic solar panels, solar thermal collectors, wind turbines, and other renewable sources of energy.

Benefits of the Innovative Renewable Energy Initiative program:
  • The program will cover 75% of the eligible expenses incurred or to a maximum of $500,000.00, which is ever is less, to each eligible and accepted applications.
Eligibility criteria of the Innovative Renewable Energy Initiative program:
  • Applicants can be:
    • Municipal governments
    • First Nations governments
    • First Nations development corporations
    • Community societies or associations
    • Yukon-based businesses
  • Your project must generate electricity, heat energy, or decrease demand on the grid and be based in the Yukon. It must also use proven technology from renewable sources such as:
    • Photovoltaic solar panels;
    • Solar thermal collectors;
    • Wind turbines;
    • Biomass;
    • Gasification; and
    • Run-of-river hydro.
