This program is intended to support short-term professional development activities that help individual artists, arts professionals, and Indigenous Knowledge Keepers advance their careers, skills, and knowledge. It funds travel to events like workshops, specialized training, presentations, mentorship programs, and public readings. The activities must have clear artistic or professional outcomes and contribute to the individual’s long-term practice. Applicants may propose participation in national or international opportunities that offer meaningful development, cultural exchange, or visibility. The grant helps with direct project costs, and applications are evaluated by MAC staff based on artistic merit, impact, and feasibility. Cultural integrity—especially in projects involving Indigenous content—is a key consideration. Artists are expected to present a well-planned project with a clear purpose, achievable outcomes, and a realistic budget. The program encourages diverse forms of learning, including knowledge passed on through traditional practices, and supports accessibility needs. Up to three grants can be awarded to an applicant per calendar year.
