Connection Grants

The Connection Grants program by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) is designed to promote knowledge mobilization by supporting events and outreach activities in the social sciences and humanities.
  • Government of Canada
Overview of the Connection Grants program:

Connection Grants are intended to facilitate the exchange of ideas and the dissemination of research knowledge to a wider audience. The program funds activities such as workshops, conferences, symposiums, colloquiums, forums, summer institutes, and outreach activities. These initiatives can be interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and international in scope, promoting collaboration between researchers, students, and partners from the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. The program is particularly focused on supporting projects that integrate multiple disciplines, involve international research collaborations, and target diverse audiences, including underrepresented groups. By funding these activities, SSHRC aims to enhance the visibility and accessibility of research findings while strengthening the capacity of researchers and partners to address complex social, cultural, and economic issues. Grants are available for short-term initiatives, typically lasting up to one year, and can serve as a foundation for larger-scale research projects or long-term collaborations. This ensures that the funded activities have a lasting impact on the research community and broader society.

Benefits of the Connection Grants program:
  • Facilitates Knowledge Sharing: Promotes the exchange of research findings to non-academic audiences.
  • Encourages Collaboration: Strengthens partnerships among academics, students, and non-academic stakeholders.
  • Supports Interdisciplinary Research: Advances projects that integrate multiple research fields and sectors.
  • Fosters International Partnerships: Encourages global collaboration and knowledge exchange.
  • Builds Capacity: Enhances research skills and broadens the societal impact of funded initiatives.
Eligibility criteria of the Connection Grants program:
  • Eligible applicants include:
  • Institutions with SSHRC institutional eligibility.
  • Projects that align with SSHRCs Research Partnerships objectives, such as knowledge mobilization, collaboration, and capacity-building.
  • Leadership by researchers, students, or non-academic organizations with intellectual contributions to the project.
