Overview of the Laboratory Services Incentive Pilot (LSIP) program:

The LSIP program is designed to bridge the gap between Alberta’s post-secondary research institutions (PSIs) and SMEs by reducing barriers to accessing laboratory services. This initiative supports the development and validation of new technologies in energy, environment, and emissions reduction. By partnering with the University of Calgary, University of Alberta, and University of Lethbridge, the program provides financial incentives to SMEs for laboratory testing, prototyping, characterization, and other research activities critical to moving technologies toward commercialization. LSIP reduces the cost of lab services while enhancing collaboration between researchers and private sector innovators. Funded through Alberta’s Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) fund, LSIP addresses gaps in the innovation ecosystem, fostering the rapid development and commercialization of Alberta-based clean technology solutions.

Benefits of the Laboratory Services Incentive Pilot (LSIP) program:
  • Financial support to access lab services for clean technology development.
  • Cost reduction for SMEs working on innovative solutions.
  • Strengthened collaboration between SMEs and Albertas PSIs.
  • Accelerated commercialization of energy, environment, and emissions reduction technologies.
  • Capacity building for researchers and innovators in Alberta.
