Led by Protein Industries Canada, this program is part of Canada’s Global Innovation Clusters initiative and aims to strengthen domestic agrifood production while enhancing competitiveness amid trade uncertainties. It supports projects that use Canadian feedstocks such as peas, soy, wheat, fava beans, hemp, and others to develop, reformulate, or commercialize food and ingredient products for the Canadian market. These efforts contribute to innovation, supply chain resilience, and sustainable development in Canada's plant-based sector. Eligible projects must involve either reformulating products using Canadian ingredients, scaling up the production of domestic food products, or commercializing ingredients for domestic manufacturers. These projects must be new or incremental to current business operations and not already in progress. Applicants are encouraged to consider the environmental and social impacts of their projects, including benefits to underrepresented groups. Projects are developed collaboratively with Protein Industries Canada, which offers support throughout the proposal process. Proposals are scored on innovation, market analysis, deliverables, project risks, and financial feasibility. Approved projects will be governed by a Master Project Agreement, including milestones, budget, and intellectual property terms.
