Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV)

The Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) Program by Transport Canada provides financial incentives for Canadian residents and businesses to purchase or lease eligible zero-emission vehicles, supporting Canada's goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Transport Canada
Overview of the Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program:

Launched in May 2019, the iZEV Program encourages the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) by offering incentives for purchasing or leasing new ZEVs. The program applies to battery-electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and fuel cell electric vehicles. Canadian residents and businesses may qualify for these incentives if they buy or lease eligible ZEVs for more than 12 months. The program helps address transportation-related emissions, which are a significant source of greenhouse gases in Canada. Starting October 2024, only ZEVs manufactured in Canada or countries with free-trade agreements with Canada qualify unless they are already in transit. Car-sharing companies can also access incentives under specific conditions.

Benefits of the Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program:
  • Up to CAD 5,000 in rebates per vehicle at the time of purchase or lease, immediately reducing initial costs.
  • Environmental impact reduction through fewer emissions from the transportation sector, which is one of Canadas largest contributors to greenhouse gases.
  • Increased accessibility to ZEVs for individuals and companies, including car-sharing businesses that allow broader community access to ZEVs.
  • Alignment with national and international climate goals, advancing Canadas commitment to reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable practices.
Eligibility criteria of the Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program:
  • To qualify for incentives under the iZEV Program, vehicles must meet specific criteria based on their type, manufacturing location, and range capacity. Eligible vehicles include battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles that meet specified electric range requirements.
  • Key eligibility requirements are:
  • Manufacturing Location: Vehicles must be manufactured in Canada or countries with a free-trade agreement with Canada. Vehicles manufactured in non-trade agreement countries remain eligible only if they were already in transit to Canada before October 1, 2024.
  • Electric Range: Eligible vehicles include BEVs with an extended range capacity, specific PHEVs with at least 50 kilometers of electric range, and fuel cell electric vehicles.
