Indigenous Employment Training Partnerships

Grants for eligible Indigenous organizations to assist the unemployed or under-employed with skills training and work experience.

Overview of the Indigenous Employment Training Partnerships program:

Indigenous Employment Training Partnerships provides grant funding to Indigenous communities and organizations to deliver group-training projects designed in partnership with employers and other partners. These partnerships will assist unemployed or under-employed Indigenous individuals to gain the necessary skills training and work experience to obtain and maintain long-term employment. The Government of Alberta is working in partnership with the Government of Canada to provide employment support programs and services.

Benefits of the Indigenous Employment Training Partnerships program:
  • Indigenous partners will:
    • Lead the project proposal process (this may be in collaboration with other partners)
    • Identify the training opportunity
    • Initiate communication with other partners
    • Identify training and skills needed by the targeted participant group for employment success
    • Provide financial and/or in-kind contributions
    • Establish a steering committee
    • Ensure participant supports are in place that are not funded through the Indigenous Employment Training Partnership
  • Program (e.g. living allowances, childcare, work clothes, and wrap-around services such as career counseling, employment
  • Retention assistance following project completion, mental health services and cultural support)
Eligibility criteria of the Indigenous Employment Training Partnerships program:
  • Eligible applicants for the Indigenous Employment Training Partnerships Program include a variety of Indigenous organizations, such as:
  • First Nations (both on and off reserve), Tribal Councils, and regional organizations
  • Metis communities (both on and off Settlements) and Metis representative groups
  • Other Indigenous organizations and employers involved in supporting Indigenous employment
  • Eligible Training Participants
  • Training participants eligible for this program must be Indigenous individuals who meet the following criteria:
  • Unemployed or under-employed
  • In need of and able to benefit from skills training to secure and maintain employment
  • Other criteria as determined by the program partners
