Overview of the Professional Development Funds for Leveling Up program:

The Professional Development Fund is a microgrant initiative offered by Business in the Streets (BITS) to help young Canadian entrepreneurs grow their skills, knowledge, and business capacity through continued education and training. With awards of up to $1,000 per applicant, the fund is designed to eliminate financial barriers that prevent young business owners from accessing essential learning opportunities. Eligible expenses include accredited certificate programs, workshops, online or in-person training, and business coaching or mentorship. The fund supports applicants who can clearly demonstrate how the training will improve their entrepreneurial journey and help develop their business. This initiative is especially beneficial for individuals who do not yet have access to traditional business education or who come from underrepresented communities. In addition to financial assistance, successful applicants receive recognition and may be featured in BITS’ community outreach. The program places a strong emphasis on empowerment, with a focus on making professional development accessible to young entrepreneurs who may otherwise be unable to afford such opportunities. The program runs on a rolling basis, meaning applications are accepted and reviewed continuously throughout the year until funds are exhausted.
