The LNG Canada Trades Training Fund (TTF) is a workforce development initiative funded by LNG Canada and managed by the BC Construction Association. It focuses on increasing the availability of skilled trades professionals in Northwest British Columbia by subsidizing the costs of training for apprentices and workers in high-demand trades. The program primarily supports employers in the region with 150 or fewer employees, enabling them to sponsor apprentices through critical stages of their training. Starting April 1, 2024, the fund will also allow individual applicants without current employer attachment to apply directly for assistance. Eligible costs include tuition fees and textbooks, and funds are paid directly to the training provider. The program serves communities between Prince Rupert and Houston, with an emphasis on fostering a strong pipeline of local journeypersons. By addressing the financial barriers to trade certification, TTF aims to increase apprenticeship completion rates, strengthen community capacity, and prepare the local workforce for opportunities in industries tied to LNG and related sectors. Applications must be submitted at least one month before the training begins to ensure eligibility and availability of funds.
